Many thanks to the nice folks at BizGrok
for sponsoring this site.
We
are quite proud of our record of successful pet adoptions. All of
our adoptions are performed by DAWS volunteers. We do the best we can
to screen both the dogs and any potential homes to ensure a
successful match for our dogs and the families coming out to the shelter.
DAWS
has over 100 active volunteers working to help the dogs and cats who
pass through our doors and we can always use more! Email us at
daws@daws.org to discuss volunteer opportunities.

Stuff
we need for the dogs: Science Diet canned food, Science Diet dry food,
old blankets (without holes that can get wrapped around doggie feet),
bath mats, toys (Nylabones, hard rubber toys, hard rubber bones, Kongs - no soft rubber
toys please), rawhide chews, pig ears, leashes, nylon buckle collars,
Frontline and HeartGard medication, paper towels, high efficiency bleach,
high efficiency laundry
detergent, isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. Any donations of these items
are greatly appreciated.
Volunteer
needs: Do you have two hours a week to improve the quality of
life of our dogs? We need some more volunteers to help us,
particularly on Mondays and Thursdays in the 6-9pm window.
Responsibilities include: walking dogs on leash and socializing them
in our fenced yards, doing laundry, helping with dinner feedings,
doing dishes, tucking in the dogs at night with blankets and toys.
Most people want to work directly with the dogs but even if you could
commit a couple hours a week to help with these other things you will
find it very rewarding! Please send an email to daws@daws.org to
learn about becoming a volunteer.
The following
is a list of most of the dogs we have available for adoption. DAWS
adopts dogs out of our Bethel shelter, and from the Danbury Dog
Pound. If you are interested in meeting one of our dogs, please come
visit our shelter during our Open Adoption Hours (click on the link for directions).
If you cannot make open house hours, please email us at
dogs@daws.org to schedule an appointment.

LISTED
BELOW ARE OUR DOGS CURRENTLY UP FOR ADOPTION:
FRANKLYN
Franklyn is ready to ROCK AND ROLL!!
Franklyn is a medium-sized male Shepherd mix who
is approx. 1 yr. old. Franklyn is a terrific dog who’s been
through a lot in his young life. Franklyn arrived at our shelter
about 6 months ago with an injured leg. In an attempt to avoid
putting him through surgery, we tried medications in the hopes of
alleviating the situation. Unfortunately, that did not work and
after consulting with an orthopedic vet, it was decided we should
proceed with the surgery. Franklyn has come through the long
recuperation process with flying colors…and now he really wants to
find his forever home.
Franklyn would do best in a home with moderate activity….either
adults only or with older children. He needs to learn how to gain
confidence as he is introduced to new things and people. This will
be easy, as he loves to play, run and chase balls. And, he’d get
along with most other dogs. The volunteers and staff have given
Franklyn a good start. Maybe you are the family he will call his
own. What do you think?
Special Needs….Dorianna is deaf, but you’d never know it!
Dorianna is a friendly, affectionate and even-tempered dog. She loves to play and walks fairly well on a leash. She is inquisitive and eager to explore new things. She would get along with most other dogs and would do best in a home with older kids.
Our trainer and some of the volunteers have begun to do some preliminary training with hand signals and report that Dorianna has responded positively.
Sydney is a medium-sized female Gordon Setter mix
who is about 2 years old and weighs ~40lbs. Sydney is a super
friendly, very nice, people-oriented girl who likes to hike and
play. She has a mellow personality and would do best with another
dog (most any size and age) in the home. We expect she will
integrate quickly into a new home.
Sydney is currently in foster care. If you are interested in meeting
her, please fill out an application and we will arrange a meeting at
the foster home.
Abner is a male Collie mix who is about 3 years old and weighs ~50lbs. Abner is a friendly boy with a laid back personality. He likes to take leisurely walks and has good leash manners. Although Abner does not mind other dogs, he has told us that he would prefer to be the only canine in his new forever home; he wants all the love and attention to himself! We recommend a relatively quiet home atmosphere for Abner and one without young children.
Brandy is a female Pointer/Foxhound mix who is about 2 years old and weighs ~45lbs. Brandy is happy, friendly and playful- the perfect girl! She always seems to be smiling. She likes to play with other active canines and would make a great hiking buddy. She will do well in most homes that can give her regular exercise and fun. Recommend children 8+years.
Buddy is a male Beagle mix who is about 2 years old and weighs ~30lbs. Buddy has a great name because that is just what he is- a great buddy! Sadly, Buddy’s former family experienced some life changes and were unable to keep him. He is now searching for a new loving family to call his own. He is friendly, energetic and playful; very people oriented. Recommend children 6+ years.
Are you looking to adopt a new best friend? If so, then come and meet Fitzpatrick! Fitz is a male Border Collie who is about 3 years old and weighs ~40lbs. He is definitely our resident attention mooch- he craves love and readily gives it too. He is a wonderful dog with a medium energy level. He likes other dogs that match his relatively calm demeanor. Recommend children
8+ years.
Tommy is a
young, medium-sized male Bassett Hound/ Beagle mix. Tommy is
“Mr. Happy-Go-Lucky”. He likes to play with other dogs and he’d be a
terrific addition to most families. He responds to “heel” and ”sit”
and is looking for a home where everyone likes to have fun.
Recommend children 6+.
Oreo is a male Border Collie mix who is about 3 years old and weighs ~40lbs. Oreo is a happy, outgoing boy. He likes to play with other dogs and his human friends. He will make a great family dog or companion. Oreo should do well in most homes. Recommend children 7+years.
Lenny is a
medium-sized male Beagle mix who is about 7 years old. Lenny
has been boarding at WAGS Doggie Daycamp and Boarding facilty for a
few weeks now and here is what they have to say about this adorable
boy:
“Lenny is very affectionate and gets along with all the dogs here.
He likes to run and play with the other canines. He is rather mellow
at other times and likes to hang out. He enjoys a good belly rub and
sitting on laps :)”
Lenny will make a nice addition to a relatively quiet adult home.
Please let us know if you would like to meet him!
Dave is a male Leonberger mix who is approx. 1
yr. old. Dave is a terrific dog who was recently surrendered to us because of his discomfort with the young neighborhood children. His owner took very good care of him, including lots of social time, obedience training, and of course….affection. He is crate and house trained and is very accomplished at heel, sit, stay and lie down. He will be very eager to please his new adopters. Dave is currently enrolled in our in-house training and socialization program to keep him happy and active. Dave would do best in a quiet home with owners who will give him confidence and continue his training. Dave had spent several days per week at doggie daycare where he did very well interacting and socializing with the other dogs. Dave is very friendly once he knows you…which doesn’t take too long!! You will find him to be affectionate, loyal and just happy to hang out.
Pierre is
a small male Jack Russell Terrier mix who is about 3 years old and
weighs ~15lbs. Pierre is one adorable boy! He is energetic, playful,
and just wants to be your friend. If you are looking for a little
guy in your life, then come and meet Pierre! Recommend children 7+
years.
Amanda is a
medium-sized female Black Lab mix who is approx. 1 yr. old.
Here’s a happy and playful girl who’s looking for her forever home.
Amanda would do well in most homes with children over 6 years old.
She likes playing with other dogs and got A+ on her temperament
tests. Want to meet Amanda?
Kelsie is a medium-sized female Fox Hound mix
who is about 2 years old and weighs 40 lbs. Kelsie is a happy,
friendly girl who is very intelligent and responds well to
training. She is energetic and needs room to run and play. She
would do best in an active home with older teenagers or adults
only where she will receive continued obedience training and
lots of exercise. Kelsie enjoys playing with other canines and
has some playmates both male and female at the shelter. Kelsie
can’t wait to be your best friend, so come and meet her today!
Sundance is a gorgeous male Black Lab/Pointer mix
who is approx. 3-4 yrs. old and about 65 lbs. He has the
typical playful Lab personality. Sundance is currently in our
on-site training program where he is thriving. He is learning how to
walk on a leash, sit and share his toys with others. Sundance adores
playing fetch and would love to be someone’s running or hiking
buddy. He loves to play in the yard with the other dogs. We are also
recommending an adult home. Please come meet this handsome boy!
You won’t be disappointed.
Wallace is a male purebred Collie who is
about
5-6 years old and weighs ~75lbs. Wallace’s previous owner was
unable to continue to care for him in the manner he deserved, so
he is now with us in search of his new forever home. Wallace has
a typical collie temperament: calm, sweet and loving. He is such
a handsome boy and likes to go for long walks. He responds to
basic commands such as sit, heel, stay. Wallace gets along with
other relatively laid back canines and will make an awesome
companion dog. Please don’t make him wait too long for his new
home- come and meet him today!
Stevie is a male Black Lab mix who is a about 1 year old and weighs ~ 60lbs. Stevie is a bit shy, but he is very handsome and sweet! Stevie LOVES being around other dogs and does OK with cats. He would do well in a quiet adult home with an experienced owner and other dogs.
Stevie is being fostered at WAGS Doggie Daycamp and Boarding in Danbury (www.wagsdaycamp.com).
If you would like to meet this great boy, please contact us at www.dogs@daws.org.
Hank is a
medium-sized male Foxhound mix who is approx. 3 yrs. old. Hank
has come a long way to find his new home. He would be a good
addition to most families with children 9+ years old. He gets along
with other very active dogs and is a playful, friendly guy. Let us
know if you’d like to meet Hank.
Teddy is a striking male Black Lab mix who is
about 4 years old and weighs ~60lbs. We have come to discover
through extensive research that Teddy is a Lab who is mixed with a
whole lot of teddy bear! He is affectionate, happy, loves to play
with tennis balls, and take long walks. During low activity times,
Teddy enjoys hanging out/snuggling with his human buddy and getting
lots of belly rubs! He is currently learning some great new tricks
like sit, stay and heel. Teddy would do best in a home where he
could get regular exercise and have a big yard to run and play. He
would do OK in a home with teenage children (15+) and he gets along
with other dogs that match his play drive; he currently has some
playmates at the shelter. No cats please.
Marti is a small young female Terrier mix who
weighs ~15lbs. Marti is a spunky, happy girl. She is always
ready to play and have fun. She likes to play with other canines
that are energetic. Marti is a smart girl who is ready to start
learning new things in an awesome new home! Recommend
children 9+years.
Bella is a
female Lab/Doberman mix who is approx. 1 yr. old. Bella is
a beautiful girl who is friendly, playful & happy. She is
currently in foster care with one of our volunteers and her 2
other dogs. She is a good pupil learning basic obedience,
housebreaking, the invisible fence and crate training. She’s
affectionate and LOVES to be around people and snuggle. Let us
know if you’d like to meet her and we’ll put you in touch with
her foster family.
Blaze is a
male
American Staffordshire Terrier who is approx. 6 years old, and a very
sweet and handsome fellow. He has this to say....
Hi - Blaze is
my name and playing fetch is my game! I am a handsome
Staffordshire Terrier mix who is looking for a special home to call my
own. I
once had a home but they moved away and I found myself at DAWS.
The volunteers and staff have taken great care of me for a long
while, but it is time for me to move into my own place. All I
need is that one special person to choose me for their family.
If you are looking for a loyal, loving canine companion, come and
check me out!
*For Blaze, we
are looking for a quiet, adult home. He is fine with cats and
some dogs after a slow introduction.
Experience with dogs required.
Happy is a young, medium-sized male Cattledog mix
who is approx. 4 yrs. old. Happy absolutely LOVES attention and
playtime and has a moderate energy level. He enjoys chasing tennis
balls and going for walks. Happy is involved in our on-site training
classes. So far, he walks well on a leash, sits, stays and waits on
command. What a good boy! Who doesn’t want a trained guy like Happy?
We are seeking a home for him where he can continue to practice his
skills and be given lots of love and attention. Happy appears to get
along with other dogs and is OK with cats. His playmate at the
shelter is Kelsie. Recommend an adult home or one with older
teenagers (15+).
Jill is a medium-sized female Black Lab mix who is about 2 years
old and weighs about 40lbs. Jill is a sweet, affectionate girl
who likes the company of canine playmates. Our trainer thinks
she is one of the sweetest dogs he has ever met! And she is
buddies with just about every dog at the shelter. She loves
romping with other dogs and gets along with all sizes, genders
and personalities. She also likes to take long walks and snuggle
with her people. Jill is patiently waiting for her new loving
family- don’t make her wait much longer!! Children 8+ years.
Lilly is a medium-sized female Shepherd/ Staffordshire
Terrier mix who is approx.
2,5 yrs. old. Pretty Lilly came to us from a local pound
and we hope she can find a new home real soon. The volunteers
give her lots of love and attention, but she really needs a home
to call her own. Lilly likes to chase balls and go for walks.
Because of her energy level, we recommend adopters with previous
dog experience and older children. Lilly has been enrolled in
our on-site training program that gives her structure and
activities to keep her busy. Lilly’s ready to move on! Are you
the family for her?
