Sponsorship Program
We can have as many as 150 cats, dogs, puppies and kittens in our care at any given time. For some of them, DAWS is the only hope they have of surviving. But our medical and food bills are piling up fast, and without your support we cannot continue to care for these animals who so desperately need us.
Why is your help so important to us?
We rely primarily on donations from individuals like you to keep our programs going. Without your support and dedication to helping the abandoned animals in our community, we cannot continue to operate.
For some of the animals in our shelter, it may take quite a bit of time before they’re adopted. Some need rehabilitation, either because they were in an abusive or neglectful home and they need time, love and trained volunteers to help them learn to trust people again.

Other residents at our shelter are elderly or have special medical needs. For these animals, it may take a long time for that special family to come along, fall in love and see beyond their age or illness and want to adopt that animal.
So until these dogs and cats are adopted, then they live at DAWS. We feed them, care for them, and see to it that they get the help they need until we can find them loving homes.
But providing adequate care and shelter is expensive, particularly when there are so many animal in need. It costs, on average per year:
food: $200 per dog; $120 per cat
basic veterinary care: $130 per animal (includes basic check-up, vaccinations and spay/neuter)
emergency veterinary care: as much as $1200 per animal when needed.
And, of course, none of these numbers include what it costs to maintain and staff the shelter. Our medical and food bills are piling up, and without your support we cannot continue to care for these animals who so desperately need us. Please help us today by sponsoring a DAWS dog or cat.
Here's how the program works:
Select a cat or dog to sponsor from our website for the sponsorship period of your choosing. Then select your sponsorship level.
For cats and kittens:
$35 (helps your sponsored cat for 3 months)
$60 (helps your sponsored cat for 6 months)
$100 (helps your sponsored cat for one year)
Other amount (we accept donations to help a needy animal in any amount.)
For dogs and puppies:
$50 (helps your sponsored dog for 3 months)
$100 (helps your sponsored dog for 6 months)
$150 (helps your sponsored dog for one year)
Other amount (we accept donations to help a needy animal in any amount.)
To sponsor an animal, please send us your donation in one of the following ways:
By internet: Use "Make a Donation" buttons above to send payment over the Internet using PayPal. The PayPal service is FREE and completely SECURE.
If you pay online, please send us an email to daws@daws.org after you make the transaction. Be sure to include the name of the pet you are sponsoring, your name, and your city/state.
By mail: DAWS, Attn: Sponsorship, PO Box 971, Danbury CT 06813. Be sure to include your email address so that we can send you receipt of sponsorship.
What you get in return:
When we receive your sponsorship donation, we will email you a special sponsorship package that includes:
A personalized sponsorship certificate
A picture of the cat or dog you’re sponsoring
As time and resources permit, we will also send you updates on how your sponsored animal is doing at the shelter. Please feel free to email us at daws@daws.org to ask how your sponsored animal is doing.

You will be listed as a sponsor beneath the dog or cat’s name on our web site
- You have an open invitation to visit your animal during our weekend Open House, which runs from 2-4pm on Saturdays and Sundays (except holidays)
What happens when the cat or dog I sponsor gets adopted? We will notify you right away. It is our deepest wish to place each and every animal in our care into a loving home. Should your sponsored animal get adopted, we will allocate the rest of your gift to another needy dog or cat.
Either way, you have the satisfaction of knowing that YOU helped improve the quality of life for that animal until s/he was adopted.
Why does DAWS use email to send my sponsorship package instead of regular mail?
Because we want 100% of your donation to go to the animals rather than help pay for stamps, paper and envelopes. Email allows us to send your sponsorship certificate and updates at no expense to the animals.If you don’t have email, we will still list you as a sponsor on our web site and hope that you will come to our shelter during weekend Open House for a few visits.
