VOLUNTEERING
WITH DAWS
With
the exception of a small cleaning staff at our shelter, DAWS is
operated completely by volunteers. Everything from cat trappings and
rescue, transports of shelter animals to and from the vet, training
and exercising our dogs, socialization and grooming of the cats,
performing adoptions of our animals - all of these activities are
performed strictly by volunteers.
Even
a couple of hours a week makes a big difference!
We have a large variety of volunteer opportunities for individuals
who have some extra time and want to get involved. Some examples are
listed in the chart below. In addition to the hands-on work with the
animals, there are also lots of opportunities for those who are not
comfortable working directly with them, such as halping with our
newsletter or annual tag sale.
A
volunteer orientation must be completed before participating at the
Bethel Shelter or Danbury Pound.
Volunteer Orientation sessions are held on the third Monday of each
month from 6:30 - 7:30pm at our shelter in Bethel. Please call
744-DAWS or email daws@daws.org
to sign up! Volunteer
Orientation schedule: Jan 21, Feb 18, Mar 17
Due
to insurance restrictions, DAWS currently cannot have volunteers
under 18 years of age working directly with our animals. However, we
would love it if those under 18 could help us with things like
fulfilling donations from our wish list, hanging flyers to advertise
for events, hanging or designing posters to help our pets find a
home, planting flowers outside the shelter, holding a bake sale, or
even a car wash. If you have other ideas on how you could help, please
let us know!
A
red asterisk (*)
on a position title denotes that volunteers must be 18 or older in
order to help with these tasks.
