This adorable girl is Shay. She is 2-years-old and weighs 30 lb. Shay is what we call a "low-rider", with short legs and a long body. We think she has some basset hound or dachshund in her. Shay is a very affectionate and sweet girl. We noticed she was favoring her back leg and upon xray, discovered Shay had previously fractured her pelvis. Maybe she was hit by a car? But things are looking up for Shay because she will be adopted into a loving home and have her second chance at the kind of life every dog deserves. Shay has no other health issues and is ready to settle into home life. She might appreciate a quieter home and probably won't be the most active dog. Snuggles on the couch and being with her people are what she has in store for her adopter. Shay is fine with other dogs and will enjoy children if they are gentle with her. We don't know what Shay thinks of cats, but we can "cat-test" her if needed. Shay is microchipped, vaccinated and will be spayed before adoption. Her adoption fee is $395. Meet Hamish and Ainsley. This brother and sister pair are 9-weeks-old and weigh just over 2 lb each. They have shorthaired grey-brown striped coats and like to keep themselves very clean. They are playful and sweet. These kitties arrived a little shy but starting to really enjoy pets and responding with little purring motors. They love to run around, climb the cat tree, chase toys and nap in the sun. The kittens are litterbox trained and eat wet or dry food with no issues. Ainsley and Hamish will be a very nice pair of kittens for someone. They will adjust to a new home better if adopted together. This adorable little fella is Vortex. He is one-year-old and weighs 28 lb. We believe he has some dachshund in him. Whatever his breed mix, he is 100% cute! She has had a lot of publicity in her time in rescue, having started at the Kitten Academy with her four kittens and then moving on to socializing in a foster home without kittens. Cuddles is learning to accept love and is beginning to trust. She is going to take a little time, learning your routine and understanding that she can trust in a new environment. Although she can be protective of her person and her belongings, she is able to coexist with other cats. This handsome boy is Bubbles. He is a 2-year-old lab mix and weighs 50 lb. He has the the cutest stub tail and the most adorable ears. Bubbles was a local owner surrender and went from living outside in a yard to now living at a loving and supportive foster home. His foster says "Bubbles is a different dog than when I first got him. He has adapted very well to living indoors. Bubbles is extremely affectionate but he needs a little time and patience when meeting new people. Bubbles is playful, loyal and listens well when called by name. He is sometimes clumsy on his long legs. He gets along well with other dogs. Bubbles needs some leash training and can get mouthy when excited, but he is easy to redirect. Bubbles is fully housetrained." Zorro is our longest resident at DAWS and has been here for four years. During that time, this 70 lb. six-year-old shepherd mix has been working very hard on training and we believe his time has come to find his furever home! Back in 2019, when Zorro first arrived to DAWS after being saved from a high kill shelter in Kentucky, he began developing some behavioral challenges, making it difficult to find him the right home. Through extensive training, Zorro has proved himself to be a pup that can develop solid friendships with humans, and even befriend select dogs. Zorro has been trained using treats and he eagerly sits, lies down and gives a paw on command. He’s done very well with car rides. He has enjoyed many hikes, walks, and play-time with his volunteer team. Time and time again, he has shown what a good boy he is, he just needs to find that special person! With a dog like Zorro, he will need a very specific adopter... Zorro Owner Requirements: • Experienced dog owner • Adult-only home with no kids or future children • Must be the only pet in the home • Has to have an understanding of positive reinforcement training • House with a fenced yard of at least 6 ft. • Willing to slowly introduce Zorro to people close to the family and educate them on Zorro’s do’s & don'ts • Come and meet Zorro multiple times If you think you can be the hero that Zorro needs, please complete our online application.
