We’d love for you to meet the lady Martha! Martha is a 45 lb, 2-year-old American Foxhound – who is a wonderful advocate for her general breed demeanor. Generally, Foxhounds are Sweet-Tempered, Intelligent, Kind, Loyal, Independent, and Loving – and Martha works daily to showcase each one of these attributes. Martha is thriving in her foster home, adjusting very well to two cats and children (7 and 10 yrs). Martha is gentle and affectionate and is beginning to show her playful side with a few toys. She loves a long walk and gets excited outdoors with a good squirrel sighting. Her hound nose often leads her to pull on leash a little in search of a good mystery in the leaves/grass/trees/road– but in spite of that, she is a good leash walker and redirects well. And although she can easily sleep like a cat some days and doesn’t seem to need to “let any energy out”, she also enjoys trail running with her foster parents. Martha is crate trained and appears to be pee pad trained – and her foster parents are working on helping her feel more confident in using the great outdoors instead. Martha is VERY social – she greets everyone on her walk with an instant tail wag and a lean. She is happy being a solo dog in foster but she really lights up around other dogs – so we also think she would enjoy being a second pup too (or having access to other canine friends). She has only used her hound bark sparingly – and it’s always been in play or to get the attention of a canine friend she’s met before. Martha has not shown any resource guarding or destructive behaviors. Her favorite things include a good curl up with her people, a walk without rain, a beach grass massage, and bacon-flavored ANYTHING. Martha is an incredible pup and is ready for her forever family. If you would like to meet/adopt Martha, please complete our online application. Here is the link to the app: https://daws.org/daws-forms/

FOSTER NEEDED Baby just lost her home and the only thing she has ever known…at nine years old, her owner needed to leave town suddenly and sadly couldn’t take her with him. Baby is in need of an immediate foster or adopter, preferably in a quiet home. It is unknown how she is with other animals at this time. Right now she’s nervous but can be held and pet - she’s a purr machine and a big love (literally as she weighs 20 lbs). If you can help foster this black beauty, please email email@example.com and complete our online application at https://daws.org/daws-forms.
This handsome guy is Cody! He is an 18-month-old lab mix and weighs 66 lbs. Cody is a friendly, sweet, social dog. He is fine with cats and other dogs. We think he will be fine with teens and up. If you love big labbie dogs, Cody may be the one for you! If you would like to meet/adopt Cody, please complete our online application. Meet Cash and Dash, two 8-week-old brown tabby brothers. They are playful, friendly and oh so adorable! They are still too small to be neutered so they need a FOSTER-TO-ADOPT home immediately. The adoption will be finalized after they are neutered at our clinic. Cash and Dash can be kept together or separated. If you would like to take one or both of these kitties home, please complete our online application at https://daws.org/daws-forms
Zen is a sleek, demure, beautiful 2-year-old lady who is looking for her forever home. She prefers a quiet environment with someone who would like to simply sit and chat with her. She is not a warm and fuzzy girl and prefers to keep her distance instead of being cuddled, but don't let that sway you from considering her. She is observant, gentle and willing to accept treats and gentle pets from her person who gives her time to adjust. Zen is tolerant of other cats and will nurture kittens. She is fine with calm older dogs who respect her space. Zen would do best in a home without young children chasing or surprising her. Zen likes to be up on a sill in the sunshine and adventure up on the corner of your bed, but don't expect her to spoon with you. If you prefer to admire beauty, can resist crowding her space and understand that some kitties just simply like to be in your company, not in your embrace, then Zen will be a perfect addition to your relaxed routine. Zen is spayed, microchipped and vaccinated. Her adoption fee is $150. If you would like to adopt Zen, please complete our online application at https://daws.org/daws-forms

Meet Woogie! He is an adorable 8 year old grey DSH. He was recently surrendered along with his brother, King Waffle, both DAWS alumnus. He is having a hard time adjusting to shelter life and will need a home that understands decompression time. He would do best as an only cat due to past experience bullying his brother. Overall he is a sweet and loving cat, he just needs someone to give him a chance. Woogie comes neutered, microchipped, and with all of his vaccines. As a senior cat, his adoption fee is only $100. If interested in meeting or adopting this handsome boy, please complete our online adoption application. Here is the link to the app: https://daws.org/daws-forms/
AMOS NEEDS A HOME! Amos is a 2-year-old boxer mix. He weighs 39 lbs and is an active, happy dog. His foster says "Amos likes to play with stuffed toys, play fetch and be a goofy boy. He is great on hikes! Amos is fine sleeping and hanging out in a crate when needed and is housetrained. He is learning some basic commands." Amos would do best in a home with no other pets. We recommend kids 13 and up and an experienced dog owner. He is reactive toward other dogs while on a leash so a fenced-in yard would make Amos very happy! He is smart and affectionate and loyal. If you would like to meet/adopt Amos, please complete our online application. Here is the link to the app: https://daws.org/daws-forms/
You’re not seeing double - we have twin black kittens available for adoption! ? They’re around 7 months old and have been consistently together since the beginning. Their brotherly bond is clear and they look out for one another. They beat the odds by getting rescued by a Good Samaritan who had seen kittens at a Naval base. It turns out they had been part of a feral black cat colony there. They were a little nervous to be around people at first, but have made some incredible progress. ??Tripod was born with 3 legs and a nub. His strides have been among the best the foster has ever seen. It’s amazing watching him move and propel himself forward. He never lets his disability get in the way and lives as if he doesn’t even have one. He’ll dive for toys and treats without fear. He loves to lay out and stretch, making adorable noises as he does this. He enjoys being loved on, ear & head scratches, back pets and even an occasional belly rub. He’s highly food motivated and the moment the food is put down, he quickly inhales it. He has so much personality and would love to make you his new best friend (especially if you have treats). ??Admiral was a bit more shy when he first started being fostered. He comes out of his shell a little more every day though. His fur is incredibly soft. He likes wet food, but also doesn’t mind sharing his helping with his brother. He loves dry food, cat beds and his mini cave (which is being included with him.) He makes his own cute noises, which are completely different than his brother. They LOVE to play with one another and it’s pretty entertaining to watch. He never gets overly rough with Tripod though. He watches out for him. We would love to see these brothers go to a furever home together. Their bond has been really sweet to see. An ideal home for them would be a peaceful place with adults who could devote time and love as they continue to come out of their shells, slowly but surely. Older kids are okay too. They are good with other cats, as well as dogs. These two have so much love to give and a lifetime of smiles to bestow on you. They are very special! Tripod & Admiral come vaccinated, microchipped, and are neutered. If you're interested in meeting these handsome boys, please complete our online adoption application at https://daws.org/daws-forms.

Meet Liberty! She is a beautiful 2 year old female Tabby. She is shy and is still not quite comfortable with human contact but will take treats from your hand. She tolerates other cats but seems to want to be on her own. Liberty was previously adopted with Cayenne, but unfortunately their owner could no longer care for them due to relocation. She would need a patient, understanging and loving adopter who would give her the time she needs to adjust in a forever home and never have to worry about being on the streets again. Liberty comes spayed, microchipped, and with all of her vaccines. If you're interested in meeting this beauty, please complete our online adoption application. If you are looking for a cheerful face and lots of enthusiastic affection, Fudge is your boy. Fudge is two years old and just the perfect size at 40 pounds. He’s extremely smart and eager to train. This pretty girl is Isabella! She is a 3-year-old kitty that came to DAWS as a stray. Her foster says "Isabella enjoys the company of other cats and likes to play with wand toys. She would thrive in a home that has another cat but it should be a confident and social cat rather than another shy cat. So far only my husband is able to give her full body pets but it took some time. She seems to like men better than women. Isabella will need a patient adopter who understands cat behavior." The foster is open to having potential adopters visit Isabella at her home as much as they want to work with her and see if she is the right fit. Isabella is vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. If you are interested in meeting or adopting this adorable girl, please complete our online adoption application. Here is the link to the app: https://daws.org/daws-forms/
This adorable guy is Deuce, a 2-year-old beagle who comes from a harsh background. We think Deuce would do great, living on a FARM or that type of setting. We are currently looking for a FOSTER or ADOPTER for him. He is so good at all of our outdoor events, meeting and greeting lots of people with a waggy tail and enjoying belly rubs. It's being a "house dog" that makes him uncomfortable. Anyone have the RIGHT HOME for sweet Deuce? Deuce bonds through play and patience, likes long hikes in the woods and is scared of cars on the street (it's getting better though). He likes social gatherings and similar places to explore. He rides well in the car, is crate trained and has no resource guarding. Deuce loves to train and please his owner and is tremendously smart. He knows sit, down, stay and come. Deuce gets defensive when people are looking to correct him for "bad behaviors." Even a stern no with a pointed finger will make him defensive. In this case, it most likely stems from abuse. He will need someone who is willing to come to the shelter for multiple visits of bonding time and outings. He needs a house with a fenced-in yard, someone who enjoys hikes and understands dog body language and positive reinforcement. We will train you in Deuce. He needs to be the only dog in the home. Deuce is loved by many and is a brave soul with an amazing work ethic. If you would like to meet Deuce, please complete our online application. This 3-year-old beauty is Emerald! She is our Cat of the Month for September! If you adopt Emerald this month, her adoption fee will be 25 % reduced! The foster says "Emerald enjoys the company of other cats and likes watching the birds out of the window. She would thrive in a home that has another cat but it should be a confident and social cat rather than another shy cat. She's receptive to full body pets from people but doesn't like certain areas being pet such as her chest. Emerald will need a patient adopter that is willing to work with her." The foster is open to having potential adopters visit Emerald at her home as much as they want to work with her and see if she is the right fit. Emerald comes spayed, microchipped, and with all of her vaccines. If you're interested in meeting this lovely girl, please complete our online adoption application. Here is the link to the app: https://daws.org/daws-forms/
This pretty girl is Lilly, a 31 lb 3-year-old beagle mix in need of a committed adopter willing to come to DAWS several times to get to know her before she goes home. Lilly is often reactive to new people and animals and will bark on first meeting. When meeting Lilly, it is best to be quiet and just walk with her. Eventually she will get curious and sniff you. She does well on hikes and loves toys. She will entertain herself with her toys. She has no signs of resource guarding. She likes to play in the yard with other dogs and we think she would do well as a second dog with a nice, confident dog. Lilly is very smart and in tune with her person. We think she could be a terrific student at agility training. Lilly needs an experienced dog owner who will give consistency to her routine so she can enjoy home life. We recommend an adult-only home for Lilly and no apartment/condo living. If you are willing to get to know this girl who is so deserving of a second chance in life, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss further. Some dogs need a little more work to settle into their forever home and Lilly is one of those dogs. She will be a great companion to someone willing to put the time in to win her heart.
German Shepherd Dog
Zorro is our Dog of the Month for September! If you adopt Zorro this month, his adoption fee will be 25 % reduced! Zorro is our longest resident at DAWS and has been here for over two years. During that time, this 70 lb. four-year-old shepherd mix has been working very hard on training and we believe his time has come to find his furever home! Back in 2019, when Zorro first arrived to DAWS after being saved from a high kill shelter in Kentucky, he began developing some behavioral challenges, making it difficult to find him the right home. Through extensive training, Zorro has proved himself to be a pup that can develop solid friendships with humans, and even befriend select dogs. Zorro has been trained using treats and he eagerly sits, lies down and gives a paw on command. He’s done very well with car rides. He has enjoyed many hikes, walks, and play-time with his volunteer team. Time and time again, he has shown what a good boy he is, he just needs to find that special person! With a dog like Zorro, he will need a very specific adopter... Zorro Owner Requirements: • Experienced dog owner • Adult-only home with no kids or future children • Must be the only pet in the home • Has to have an understanding of positive reinforcement training • House with a fenced yard of at least 6 ft. • Willing to slowly introduce Zorro to people close to the family and educate them on Zorro’s do’s & don'ts • Come and meet Zorro multiple times If you think you can be the hero that Zorro needs, please complete our online application. Here is the link to the app: https://daws.org/daws-forms/ Zorro’s adoption fee is discounted for veterans that are members of the organization Pets for Patriots. The discounted fee for him is $100.
