Feral Cat TNR
A Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) program is a humane and effective approach for stray and feral cats. The Danbury area is home to many feral cat colonies – cats living in the wild in small to larger groups. The DAWS Trap-Neuter-Release program improves the lives of feral cats, improves their relationships with the people who live near them, and decreases the size of colonies over time.
Cats are humanely trapped and taken to our Clinic to be neutered and vaccinated. Their ears are “tipped” to show that they have been altered. After recovery, the cats are returned to their home—their colony—outdoors. Kittens and cats who are friendly and socialized to people may be adopted into homes.
TNR stops the breeding cycle of cats and therefore improves their lives while preventing reproduction. TNR provides a life-saving, effective solution for these beautiful, independent cats.
Important Information for Trappers
All cats must be transported and removed from our clinic in a standard sized humane trap. There are no exceptions. The trap must be covered for the safety of the cat, caretaker and our staff.
You may trap the cats, and call the DAWS Clinic to make an appointment. Please note that the Clinic is open limited hours, so the drop-off of the cats must be scheduled ahead of time. We cannot accept ‘walk-in’ appointments for feral cats.
Traps may be rented from DAWS with a refundable $75 deposit.
Feral cats must be returned to their original colony. Releasing a cat into a new area or colony is dangerous to the cat, especially after recent surgery.
THIS PROGRAM IS FOR FERAL CATS ONLY. If you can handle or pet the cat, it is not feral.
We may occasionally be able to assist in trapping feral cats for TNR with volunteer trappers. Please call 203-790-6511 to request this service.
